Whose Canvas: MULTAZAM (ZAM) KAMIL

Multazam Kamil and his art works at Santrian Gallery, Bali (04/30/2011)

Concept
Zam Kamil works of art visually speak to us about the little poetic moments of life, the fallibility of the human spirit and certain poignant situations in life. In Zam Kamil’s painted world, matters relating to the material and the physical realm are left forgotten as one can find a sense of wonder towards nature in his creations.

Unceasing attempts to capture the depths of human sensations and the distilled essence of life’s milestones are also motivations for his art pieces. The simplified and abstracted silhouette figure is a common motif in Zam Kamil’s paintings. It is also in them that we recall the bold early 20th century Fauvist manifestos of noted modernists like Andre Derain and Henri Matisse affirming the expressive potency of colour and artistic freedom from academic realism. The colours are almost pure, almost unadulterated. The works of Zam Kamil are the humble ponderings of an ordinary individual who has chosen the art brush and the canvas as the primary media of which he claims an understanding of the world.

Exhibitions
Zam Kamil has often participated in group exhibitions as well as solo exhibitions usually in conjunction with galleries from Indonesia and other countries such as Singapore, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, etc.

His last solo exhibition was with CG Artspace, Jakarta in 2008 where 30 of his works of art instantly sold out during the first week of the exhibition. Zam Kamil recently joined with another group exhibition called ‘Dusta Suci’ with the Spirit ’90 group of artists. The exhibition was held from the 30th of April until the end of May and took place at Santrian Gallery, Sanur, involving a total of twelve artists.

Born: August 5, 1969 in Makassar, South Sulawesi
