An ingrained artistry, leads Nurul Hayat alias Acil explores in order to find unique art medium. The naughty idea of the man from Tasikmalaya, West Java, is finding its points since he was using old newspapers as a material.THROUGH the very medium Acil successfully embodied the spirit to artistic expression. "I interested in using old newspapers as easy to obtain," he said, when met by interrupting the launching of Sewon Artspace, in Sewon, Bantul Regency, Friday (29/7) afternoon.
In addition, Acil said that an old newspaper is a source of his ideas. An old newspaper is a window of insight freezing history by text. So, Acil even immediately got an idea from the old newspapers are read when creating a work, while he forms as a work.
"There are so many old newspapers, so it's easy to find. In fact I often carry glue while visiting everywhere. When found the newspaper, usually I make to be a work immediately," said the artist who was educated in Art Institute of Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta.
Through his chosen medium Acil also wants to break a grip that to work is should to be in a studio with a special material. Working can be done anywhere, because in fact medium and ideas could appear from anywhere.
For artist who often held exhibitions in various metropolises, working is a process to be happy, even when his work is a critique of all the problems in the vicinity. There was no term works that good or bad, but more on the works that make happy or not. "It's simply just a matter of intuition," said the man who lives in Kasongan, Bantul.
At the opening of Sewon Artspace attended by Ambassador of Austria to Indonesia, Dr. Klaus Wolfe, Acil got an opportunity to collaborate to make artworks with an artist from Austria, Marbod Fritsch. He made an artwork titled 'Live in Sign' which is the result of his interpretation to the work of Marbod.
The whole works made in the opening of the artspaces was made in a collaborative, involving the two countries, Indonesia and Austria. Collaboration of Acil and Marbod generates network series led the audience interested in approaching. As if you could see something within it but there was nothing within it works so no success finding anything.
His work shows a figure who appears with the geometric basic, an unstructured angular object. Some points to another point linked by lines eventually form a figure. This work looks like random lines which connects and binds tightly to the boundaries. (Mona Kriesdinar)
