THE SUN IN THE EAST #1


A series of creative journey titled ‘The Sun in The East #1’ had been planned since one year ago. The journey began at November, 17th, 2012 with some point of West Nusa Tenggara such as Sumbawa (Taliwang Region), Lombok island also the indigenous village of Sembalun Bumbung as the target. This journey would be closed by executing fine art workshops, painting, and sketching in Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno island when the night of new year. These activities attached with some local events such as Samawa Cultures Festival 2012 and the West Nusa Tenggara Birthday with involved the artist from Sumbawa and Lombok island.

Six artist from Fighting Cocks Group Yogyakarta will hold an exhibition titled 'Live in Harmony' in Warung Yayaa Artspace, Jl. Sekar Waru No. 4, Banjar Belanjong, Sanur, on 16-28 September 16-28, 2012. They are Zam Kamil, Moch Basori, Nurul ‘Acil’ Hayat, Dedy Sufriadi, Rocka Radipa, and Jitka Kampak. They will present about two dimension paintings. 'Live in Harmony' advanced contemporary works in expressionist, impressionist, abstract, even etsa (etching).

One only has to listen to the dialogues between the members of Fighting Cocks Group Yogyakarta to see the passion for this theme, “And the Cocks Are Still Fighting,” and the eclectic selection of artists. As a group they are concerned with artists who have gone through a process of growth and found their identities whilst simultaneously being concerned with supporting new, lesser known artists. The members of Fighting Cocks Group Yogyakarta are Dedi Yuniarto as manager, Zam Kamil, Nurul ‘Acil’ Hayat, Moch Basori as the key artist members.

Selaku kelompok seniman, mereka memandang penting proses yang ditempuh oleh seorang seniman dalam menemukan identitasnya sendiri, sekaligus memandang penting untuk mendukung seniman yang baru memulai kariernya. Anggota-anggota Kelompok Jago Tarung Yogyakarta yakni Dedi Yuniarto sebagai manajer, dan Zam Kamil, Nurul ‘Acil’ Hayat serta Moch Basori sebagai seniman kunci.

A troubadour figure was riding a bicycle with super high speed. He passing through with his body bent like a racer, while his left hand besides the front axle as if will 'clutch' something of the path. Its roar cleaves the wind and the blood-red of mist. Behind the mist, Mount Merapi vaguely upstands and dead silence.

Sosok trubador itu mengendarai sepeda dengan kecepatan super tinggi. Ia melintas dengan tubuhnya membungkuk laiknya seorang pembalap, seraya tangan kirinya di samping poros roda depan seperti hendak ‘meraih’ sesuatu dari lintasan. Gemuruhnya menyibakkan angin dan kabut berwarna merah darah. Di balik kabut itu samar-samar Gunung Merapi berdiri diam dan sunyi.

CELEBRATING THE BODY IN GAYA FUSION ART SPACE


'Celebrating The Body' lifts body as a foundation framework for visual narrative assembled by artists of Fighting Cocks Group. Why does the body? Body as philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty called as etre-au-monde. Body is a human's mode to exists in this universe. It is an important aspect for humans, either biologically, because the body supporting human life, as well as philosophically, namely as a medium to touch the world and realize itself. Through their body, human reveals the existence of man himself, because by his body he was known as a subject. By his body, man passes the test of history stored neatly in the sensory organs of his body.

MERAYAKAN TUBUH DI GAYA FUSION ART SPACE


‘Celebrating The Body’ mengangkat tubuh sebagai kerangka landasan atas narasi visual yang dirangkai oleh seniman-seniman Fighting Cocks Group. Mengapa tubuh? Tubuh sebagaimana disebut filosof Maurice Merleau-Ponty sebagai etre-au-monde. Ia adalah cara mengada manusia di alam semesta ini. Ia merupakan aspek penting bagi manusia, baik biologis, karena tubuh menunjang kehidupan manusia, maupun filosofis, yakni sebagai medium untuk menyentuh dunia dan merealisasikan dirinya sendiri. Melalui tubuhnya, manusia mengungkapkan eksistensi diri, karena dengan tubuhnya ia dikenal sebagai subyek.

JAKARTA: PHILO ART SPACE held a painting exhibition themed 'Tubuh-tubuh Margin' (Marginal Bodies) by Nurul Hayat (Acil), Multazam Kamil, Moch Basori, Priyaris Munandar (Aris) and Iqrar Dinata which opened to the public starting up today (Monday, 26/09/2011).

The five artists who are members of the Fighting Cocks Group are displaying the latest works at least 20 to October 10, 2011.

FOR THE LAST 30 years, Yogyakarta has produced thousands of artists. This number is increasing every year. Art spaces also appear to facilitate the city's art desires. Starting from non-profit galleries, commercial galleries, museums, art libraries as well as public spaces are developing with their own role and characters. With in the same spirit, Austro Indonesian Arts Program (AIAP) through Sewon ArtSpace wants to get involved in the dynamics of Yogyakarta art by opening a space for work, as well as a space that allows the exchange of information among artists and academics from around the world and multi disciplinary backgrounds.

THE FIGURE of a turtle was sitting right in front of the entrance to the building of Bentara Budaya Yogyakarta. With its left hand hold a glass of drink, it sat about by leaning against to it carapace. Its right leg is lifted, crossed, superimposed on its left leg. Its style is elegant with a tie around its neck.

Perupa Sanggar Suwung menggunakan berbagai materi dan gaya.

SOSOK kura-kura itu duduk persis di depan pintu masuk gedung Bentara Budaya Yogyakarta. Dengan tangan kiri menggenggam segelas minuman, dia duduk santai bersandar pada cangkangnya. Kaki kanannya diangkat, tersilang, ditumpangkan pada kaki kiri. Gayanya perlente dengan dasi melingkar di leher.

SANGGAR SUWUNG AND DIVERSITY

It is clearly visible through his works Acil was critiquing phenomenon of political, economic and environmental which is currently happening in Indonesia. Just look at the slow discussion of draft of laws in People Consultative Assembly/House of People's Representative that must be impact on the pace of development, repeated cases of corruption, collusion, nepotism involved state officials, looting of natural wealth of Indonesia by foreign companies, etc..

SANGGAR SUWUNG DAN KEBERAGAMAN

Terlihat jelas melalui karya-karyanya Acil sedang mengkritisi fenomena politik, ekonomi dan lingkungan yang saat ini sedang terjadi di Indonesia. Lihat saja lambannya pembahasan RUU di MPR/DPR yang pasti akan berdampak pada tersanderanya laju pembangunan, kasus-kasus korupsi-kolusi-nepotisme (KKN) yang terus berulang dan melibatkan pejabat negara, penjarahan kekayaan alam Indonesia oleh perusahaan-perusahaan asing, dsb.

SPIRIT '90: ROMANTICISM AND THE PHENOMENON


The works they serve, in average seem to indicate a higher class, if viewed from the age class (education) they was following. Most of them show the totality that is quite encouraging.

Romanticism That Is Inspires
ONCE UPON a time, a pair of high-arched Penjor stuck in the gate of Purna Budaya Building (Full Cultural Building) of Yogyakarta. Colorful flowers in pots arranged neatly both in the corners of the front verandah and indoors. Young people who on average had long haired with a ribbon attached to their clothes seem mingling with dozens of other visitors. It is not rituals event of Bali customs or wedding of a young couple from Bali family overseas, but there is an ongoing art events of the Spirit '90. Entering the second month of 1994 no fewer than 24 people of a young artist who was then aged 24 on average paraded to show of creativity.

SPIRIT ’90: ROMANTISME DAN FENOMENA


Karya-karya yang mereka sajikan, rata-rata tampak menunjukkan kelasnya lebih tinggi, jika dilihat dari usia angkatan (pendidikan) yang mereka tempuh. Sebagian besar dari mereka menunjukkan totalitas yang cukup menggembirakan.

Romantisme yang Menginspirasi
SYAHDAN, sepasang penjor tinggi melengkung menancap di pintu gerbang gedung Purna Budaya Yogyakarta. Bebungaan warna-warni di dalam pot tertata apik di sudut-sudut teras depan maupun di dalam ruangan. Anak-anak muda yang rata-rata berambut gondrong dengan tanda pita menempel di baju nampak berbaur dengan puluhan pengunjung lainnya. Bukan peristiwa ritual adat Bali atau pernikahan sepasang muda-mudi dari keluarga Bali perantauan, melainkan di sana tengah berlangsung perhelatan seni rupa dari kelompok Spirit ‘90. Memasuki bulan kedua tahun 1994 tak kurang dari 24 orang seniman muda yang kala itu rata-rata berumur 24 tahunan berparade unjuk kreativitas.

RAMAH TAMAH TANAH JAWA, 2010

On a similar theme, Nurul Hayat or Acil makes a sculpture out of newsprint. He created an island. There is a small tree on it bowed before a human figure headed a back-hoe. Through the work which is titled 'Ramah Tamah Tanah Jawa' (Hospitable of Java Land), Acil touched permissiveness of Javanese cultures. In fact, when something comes from outside would harm himself.

Pada tema yang sejenis, Nurul Hayat atau Acil membuat patung dari kertas koran. Ia membuat sebuah pulau. Di atasnya ada pohon kecil merunduk pada sesosok manusia berkepala back-hoe. Lewat karya berjudul 'Ramah Tamah Tanah Jawa' itu Acil menyentil budaya Jawa yang permisif. Bahkan, ketika sesuatu yang datang dari luar itu membahayakan dirinya.
